The story of Maria Merian’s work weaves science, art, and history into a rich tale of a girl who lived a long time ago. We have this book on our early elementary shelf, but it can remain on the shelf through high school.
I like the way the author, Joyce Sidman, explains the life of a girl in the 1600s as part of the subject’s entire life, rather than treating it as a separate piece. It is nice to see original maps and artwork from the time period, too.
There are many more pages. This is a worthwhile tome.
