This poem is for you to print out for your children.
We keep poetry cards in class for children to select for us to read. When they begin to read themselves, they will come ask us what various words mean.
When your child asks a question about a word, remember to only provide the help asked. This rule applies for everything else, too.
Dr. Maria Montessori gave the example of a young child asking his mother what a flower was called. She exhorted us to simply answer the child’s question directly, not remark on the child’s “sudden interest” in flowers and so forth.
Parents always ask how to nurture a child’s curiosity and desire to learn. The answer is to begin with this simple step.
What a wonderful picture! And the poem matches so well.
