Coffee: Toxicity Testing Results
Your morning cup of coffee should be the cleanest! Find the best coffees amidst concerns about pesticides, plastics (cancer, hormone disruption), and other modern ills.
Coffee was the one thing in my life that I hadn’t upgraded because I loved my Italian Illy cafe…
It comes in a nitrogen-flushed can, so it is always fresh. When I saw the Mamavation testing results, Illy wasn’t on the list, but I was curious what would happen if I tried one of the highly-rated coffees. Since Danger Coffee has an interesting concept of adding fulvic and humic minerals, I thought I’d try it. I really did feel better — the post-lunch slothfulness was pretty much eliminated, so maybe I’d just been poisoning myself with the morning cup of standard coffee.

Mold is a huge problem in coffee and foods. You will not see mold, but the tiny mold spores and metabolites are present. They cause problems with everything from hormones (mold produces estrogenic compounds) to cancer. Because Europe and Asia have strict mold limits for foods, producers (American and foreign) sell all the contaminated food to the US.
By the way, did you know coffee is suggested for adult ADD, ADHD, etc?
If your coffee maker has plastic or aluminum that touches the coffee, it’s definitely time to toss it. The Mamavation article provides recommendations for coffee makers, but pure glass or stainless steel are really the only clean options.
My favorite is a stainless steel insulated press that I got from Aliexpress,
You can tell this press is well-made because the welding is clean,
See where the spout is welded to the body? It’s hard to see in a photo, but it is a clean seam with no cheap flux. The stainless kettle that I got from Whole Foods was an expensive mess in this regard. I didn’t think to check the welding before I got it.
The coffee press is from this shop.
Preparing your coffee in a French press is a great Practical Life exercise for your child. They can also use it for herbal infusions.
Here’s the entire Mamavation coffee testing article that has coupon links for a couple of the best coffees.
