Olivia shared her watercolor of summer flowers,
She submitted work to a local art competition, but her drawing was not considered for an award because the judges mistakenly believed she had traced it, even though she had completed it freehand.
I just had to share her flowers here!
You can see how her gross motor control led to good fine motor skills due to work with the proper equipment, not writing drills with paper. Her parents stressed the importance of outdoor skills and sensorial development, and now her abilities have really bloomed. Just like her flowers.
We do not send art (or any work) home from school every day because it creates an artificial feedback cycle: children take work home, parents praise it, and then children rush to create something new to please their parents. This results in a pile of papers that never had much meaning for the child in the first place.
Instead, we encourage everyone to keep their works at school to take home at the end of each term. This way, children only make what they personally feel moved to create, not to make their parents happy.
On Olivia, I hear she wants to setup an Etsy shop, so I will keep you tuned!
