Picture & Word Book for Reading Aloud

The fox family's back story!

This is the read-aloud part of the fox family set!

Here is the Etsy listing for this picture and word book.

I posted a few screen shots of the foxes below that you can download and print,

Beginning zoology terms such as “vixen” and “dog fox” are introduced naturally in the story.

I don’t know why zoologists kicked daddy foxes to the curb, but their role in the fox family is rarely mentioned. Since the fathers of other animals get the same rough treatment, I have decided to remedy that with real stories of real animal families.

Did you know father wolverines have to actively coach their offspring on everything from crossing streams properly to stalking prey? They do not “abandon” their families! They go out hunting to stock up on food when the mother is in the den with the newborns.

I guess zoologists saw them on their way out to hunt and figured, well, off that father goes to smoke and drink. All this time, the father animals are actually running their little paws off to feed the whole family: Hunt, eat, run home, regurgitate for the babies and mom, back out to eat, digest…

Did you see the read-aloud companion book on foxes? It is designed to be used once children have begun the Pink series. Here is the listing for that fox book.

Happy reading!
