I think the picture is great. This was from 100 years ago. The children are allowed to move around too, not just sit behind a desk. Now we industrialized the process and have to make sure the curriculum covers topic MS K. AR.13.1. Could you imaging 6'tall desks at work? And 4' chairs? And you have to get work done?
Glad you like the photo! In many schools now, there is a "Sit Safely" policy that focuses on getting kids to sit still in these horrible chairs. But moving the chair around and sitting at odd angles is the ONLY way to save one's spine from permanent deformation!
Now that you say this, I realize I put my notepad at an angle to my desk and write that way. Maybe it is because later in school the desk was too small and moving my arm left to right did not work well with the sitting position.
It's good that you noticed this habit. I'd be curious to know if it effects your back, neck, or body overall. When children are young, it is so important to get the ergonomics of their environment correctly established!
